As a watercolour Artist with an Industrial Engineering education I enjoy the transformation of my art from 2d to 3d.
I’m always looking for the clay in its natural form to play a part in the ceramic pieces I create and are inclusive in the form, light and shadow are reflected by carving and modifying the form to become visual and tactile.
My glazes are applied to induce the Kiln to not merely be vitro-firing agent but become integral to the finished piece to create visual interest.
I am continually exploring the boundaries of the clay and glazes. I work predominantly in Porcelain and fine white stoneware and like to leave clay unglazed or clear glazed allowing the Kiln to provide surface texture and form to create visual interest.
My work is both functional and sculptural, useful and beautiful, I conceive of it is as beautiful because it is useful and useful because it is beautiful.
From this perspective there is no essential difference between ceramic art and functional pottery
